This is Waitby School. It's a converted schoolhouse from 1680, sitting by itself on Waitby Fell, about a mile and a half outside Kirkby Stephen. It’s just you and the views out here. Fields and livestock, that’s it.
It sleeps seven. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It’s a 5 Star place, which means it's been done to a high standard. They kept a lot of the original features during the restoration, like the wood panelling and the old school bell. There's even the original outside boys' lavatory still there, complete with seat. It’s a bit of a talking point.
You’ve got a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, wifi, and parking. The garden is enclosed. There’s an electric vehicle charger. It is wheelchair accessible at the entrance.
The nearest shop and pub are in Kirkby Stephen, about a mile and a half away. For a walk, you can pick up the Coast to Coast route nearby. The Brough Castle ruins are just down the road and are worth a look.
If you fancy a drive, the Northern Dales are on your doorstep. Appleby-in-Westmorland is about ten minutes away. For a bigger market town, Kendal is roughly half an hour. The M6 is about twenty minutes if you need to get further afield.
