Mouthlock Chapel is a big house. It's what it sounds like: an old chapel converted into a place to stay. It's out here in South Stainmore, on its own. The views are quite something. On a clear day, it feels like you can see halfway up the country.
It sleeps a lot of people, 17, which is why there are seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's got things like a wood burner, a dishwasher, and Wi-Fi. There's a conservatory and a room with some games. The main thing is space. You can all be together or find a quiet corner.
The garden is enclosed and there's a patio. Good for sitting out if the weather plays ball.
It's very rural. The nearest proper shop, pub, or restaurant is about ten miles away in Kirkby Stephen or Brough. Plan your shopping.
Where it is good for is exploring. You're right between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Both are about a 40-minute drive. So one day you can be walking by a lake, the next you can be up on the Dales.
The highest pub in England, Tan Hill Inn, is five miles away. It's an experience.
Further afield, you can get to Hadrian's Wall, Teesdale, or even nip up towards the Scottish Borders in under an hour and a half.
For planning trips, these are useful: Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales National Park, and English Heritage for places like the Wall.
Facilities: It's got most things you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels provided. There's parking on site. It has some accessibility features too, like a ground floor wet room and grab rails. You can bring up to two dogs.
