You're right on the edge of the New Forest. It's about a ten minute drive to get into the proper heathland. You'll see the ponies. Cranborne Chase is the other way, which is also good for walking.
If you want the coast, Bournemouth's about half an hour in the car. Sandbanks and Poole Harbour are the same sort of distance. Wimborne Minster is a nice old town, about fifteen minutes away.
