Claunch

Claunch is down in Sorbie, Dumfriesshire. It's a barn conversion on a working farm. That means tractors going past sometimes, and sheep in the fields.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. One bedroom's on the ground floor and has a wet room shower next to it. The other two beds are up a steep spiral staircase on a mezzanine. You need to be okay with that.

It’s open plan downstairs, so kitchen, living and dining are all in one big room. It works well. You get all the usual stuff: washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. There's parking right outside.

You’re in the middle of the countryside here. The coast is about four miles away. Lots of little harbour villages like Garlieston and Portpatrick are a short drive. There’s good walking everywhere, especially up in the Galloway Forest Park, which is massive. If you like mountain biking, the Kirroughtree 7Stanes trail is nearby.

Wigtown, Scotland’s book town, is close by and worth a look. Newton Stewart has shops and places to eat. Further down, the Mull of Galloway is RSPB land and a good spot for seabirds.

If you fancy trying something, the farmer, Alistair, does private archery or clay pigeon shooting. You’d need to arrange that with him.
