The Smithy Of Longcastle

The Smithy is on the edge of Whauphill in Dumfriesshire. It's detached, at the end of a lane. The garden's big and mostly to the side, with a bit of a slope. It gets the sun in the evening.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom on the ground floor. It's a 4 Star, so it's been done up nicely. We put a new kitchen in and sorted the floors a couple of years back. Everything's on one level except for the stairs up to the bedrooms. The doors are standard width but there's a small lip on the front doorstep, maybe an inch.

You're in the country here. It's quiet. The village has a shop for basics and a pub, about a ten-minute walk. Port William on the coast is ten minutes in the car. The beach there is shingle but good for a swim if you're hardy. For sand, you'd drive a bit further.

Wigtown, the book town, is about twenty minutes away. It's good for a wander and a coffee. The big attraction nearby is the Galloway Forest Park, maybe half an hour's drive. It's huge. Good for walking, cycling, and the mountain biking trails are serious. If you're into gardens, Logan Botanic Garden is worth the trip, about forty minutes south. They've got plants there you don't see anywhere else in Scotland.

For facilities: you've got the washing machine, dishwasher, fast broadband, and the TV has the usual catch-up services. Bedding and towels are included. Parking for two cars on the gravel. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
