Garrarie Cottage is on our farm, just outside Monreith. It's detached. The view from the front looks right out over the fields to the sea, and you can see the Mull of Galloway and the Isle of Man on a clear day. We finished renovating it a few years ago.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing dogs. We allow two.
You're on a working farm, so you'll see tractors and livestock about. The lane to the cottage is a farm track, so it's a bit bumpy.
The nearest beach is about two miles down the road at St Medan. It's sandy and usually quiet. There's a nine-hole golf course there too. For shops and places to eat, you'd need to drive. The closest pub is about six miles. Stranraer is half an hour away and has supermarkets and a few restaurants.
If you like walking, you're in a good spot. You can walk the cliffs from here, or drive a short way to the forest park. The Galloway Forest Park is about a 40-minute drive. It's a proper dark sky park if you're into stargazing.
Wigtown, Scotland's book town, is a 20-minute drive. Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway are worth the trip for the views. Logan Botanical Gardens are spectacular.
Facilities wise: it has a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. We provide a cot and highchair if needed. The wet room shower and no steps at the entrance make it fairly accessible.
