Garrarie Cottage

Garrarie Cottage is down a farm track near Monreith. It's detached and looks out over the fields towards the sea. You can see the Mull of Galloway and, on a clear day, the Isle of Man.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It was all redone a few years ago, so it's in good nick. It's got a 4 Star rating. There's a wet room on the ground floor and the entrance is wheelchair accessible. The ceiling in the main bedroom is a bit low in one corner, just so you know.

You're on a working farm here. There are sheep and cows in the fields around. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing dogs. You can bring two.

For facilities, it's got what you'd expect: woodburning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.

The local beach, St Medan's, is about a mile and a half down the road. It's sandy and has a 9-hole golf course right by it. The nearest shop is in Port William, about four and a half miles. The closest pub is about six miles away in Mochrum.

You're in a good spot for exploring. Portpatrick is a pretty harbour town. The Mull of Galloway has an RSPB reserve. Wigtown, Scotland's book town, is a short drive away. Stranraer is about half an hour for bigger shops. If you fancied a day trip to Ireland, the ferry goes from Cairnryan.

For walking, the coast path is right there. The Galloway Forest Park is inland, about a 40-minute drive. It's a Dark Sky Park, so if you're into stargazing it's very good on a clear night. Useful links for planning: Logan Botanic Garden and Galloway Forest Park.
