The Smiddy is in Glasserton. It's a detached cottage, used to be the village smithy. We're about a mile and a half from Whithorn, which has a shop and a pub.
It sleeps four people. Two bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom downstairs. The garden is fully fenced which is good for dogs, and there's a tap outside for washing them off. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's all on one level inside except for the bedrooms, which are up a flight of stairs. They're normal stairs, not too steep.
You get a wood burning stove, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. There's parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included, and the WiFi works fine.
Whithorn is the main thing locally. It's famous for having the first Christian church in Scotland. The priory ruins and the museum are interesting. The harbour at Isle of Whithorn is a short drive away, it's a nice spot for fish and chips.
Wigtown is about twenty minutes by car. It's full of bookshops. There's also the Bladnoch whisky distillery there if you want a tour.
The coast is close. Monreith Beach is good for a walk. For birdwatching, the Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve is big. They have an osprey nest you can watch on camera. The Scottish Wildlife Trust has details.
You can get to the Galloway Forest Park, which is a dark sky park, in under half an hour. Good for stargazing if it's clear. The Forestry and Land Scotland site has maps. There's also cycling on the 7 Stanes trails if that's your thing.
We take up to two well-behaved dogs. Please don't leave them alone in the cottage.
