The Smiddy is in Glasserton, near Whithorn. It's a detached place, used to be the village smithy. That was a long time ago. It's got a 4 Star rating, which is good. It means it's comfortable and well-kept.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom. The stairs are a typical cottage staircase, so they turn and are a bit steep. Just mind your head. Everything is on one level except the bedrooms.
The garden is fenced and gated, which is good if you've got dogs. We allow two. There's an outside tap for washing muddy paws. There's a patio with a BBQ and a washing line round the side.
Inside, it's open plan downstairs. Kitchen, dining table, sitting area with a woodburning stove. We provide the first bag of logs. There's a TV, WiFi, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included.
For the area, Whithorn is the main thing. It's about a mile and a half away. It's an old town, has the ruins of the priory where St. Ninian started. The museum there is interesting if you like history. There's a shop, a couple of pubs, and a cafe.
The coast is close. Monreith Beach is about ten minutes' drive, it's a good stretch of sand for a walk. The Isle of Whithorn is a little harbour village, also about ten minutes away. Nice for a chip supper by the water.
Wigtown is about twenty minutes inland. It's full of bookshops, as you might know. They have a festival. Bladnoch Distillery is on the way there if you fancy a tour.
For a decent walk, the Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve is big. Good for birdwatching. If you want to go a bit further, Galloway Forest Park is maybe forty minutes. Good for cycling or just driving through. The National Trust for Scotland has information about it.
Facilities wise, I think I've covered most of it. There's parking right outside. It's a rural spot, so it's quiet. You'll hear more sheep than cars.
