This is Bruce Cottage in Whithorn. It's a one-up-one-down cottage from the 1700s. Sleeps two. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's been done up to a good modern standard but it still feels like an old cottage.
Downstairs is the living room with a wood burner and a small kitchen area at the back. The stairs are steep and narrow, just so you know. Upstairs is the double bedroom and a shower room. Everything you need is there: TV, wifi, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included.
Outside there's a small enclosed courtyard with a table. There's also a big utility room you can use for storing bikes or walking gear. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
Whithorn itself is very quiet. It's known for the priory ruins, which are some of the oldest Christian sites in Scotland. The coast is about four miles away at places like Garlieston. You can drive to the Galloway Forest Park in under half an hour for walking. It's a Dark Sky Park, so good for stargazing if it's clear.

There's parking right by the cottage.
