Harbour Retreat

Harbour Retreat is in Garlieston, which is in Dumfries and Galloway. It's a terraced house right by the harbour. You're looking out over the water.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, so that's handy. The main bedroom has a small balcony. You can sit out there with a coffee and watch the boats. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's been recently done up, so it's in good order.

The stairs inside are a typical spiral staircase. It's fine, but mind your head.

There's a pub and a cafe in the village. Both are decent. For a bigger shop, you'd drive to Newton Stewart, about ten minutes away. Wigtown, the book town, is also close. Good for a browse.

The house is right on a coastal path. One way takes you past Galloway House gardens and down to Rigg Bay, which is a sandy beach. The other way goes along the front past the little coloured cottages. Both are easy walks.

You're in a good spot for the wider area. The Galloway Forest is about half an hour's drive for walking and cycling. It's a Dark Sky Park, so the stars at night are very clear if you get the weather. Logan Botanic Garden is worth the trip if you like gardens. So is the Bladnoch whisky distillery.

Facilities wise: there's a washing machine, WiFi, TV, and parking for one car right outside. The garden at the back is enclosed. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.

For planning days out, these sites are useful: Galloway Forest Park and Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere.
