The Augusta House is on the Lower Mill Estate in Somerford Keynes. It’s a modern house, not an old cottage. The whole estate is a private nature reserve, about 450 acres. It’s gated so it feels secure.
It sleeps eight. Five bedrooms, three bathrooms. The rating is 4 Star, so it’s well-equipped and comfortable.
The main thing is the location. You’re right in the reserve with lakes and rivers. You can walk or cycle on the tracks straight from the door. There are beavers in one of the lakes. In winter, some areas near the big lagoon are fenced off for the birds, but you can still watch from the hides.
You get access to the estate’s ArtSpa. That means indoor and outdoor heated pools, a sauna, steam room, and a gym. There’s also a tennis court.
Inside, it’s open plan. There’s a woodburning stove, WiFi, a TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them. The garden is enclosed.
You can bring up to two dogs. There’s on-site parking.
A shop, a pub, and a restaurant are about a quarter of a mile away, just outside the estate gates.
Cirencester is about ten minutes by car. It’s a proper market town with shops. Other places like Bourton-on-the-Water or Stow-on-the-Wold are within half an hour. For a longer day out, you can get to Oxford in about an hour.
