Myrtle Farm is a lovely Grade II listed, traditional and historic Devon longhouse, built c. 1600 which retains many original features such as stone and slate floors, inglenook fireplaces, some steep stairs and lovely oak beams. There are four bedrooms: a kingsize, two double and a twin, plus a bathroom on the first floor with the bonus of underfloor heating. Downstairs is an additional shower room perfect for when you’ve spent the day surfing, the rest of the accommodation including a living room with cosy wood burner, a separate dining room with lovely feature inglenook fireplace and a kitchen with all you’ll need for your stay. Outside there’s a large enclosed private garden with views over surrounding hills with large lawns and a terrace for outdoor dining plus a gated patio with further outdoor seating where you can also enjoy a BBQ.
The property is in the centre of Croyde where you’ll find restaurants, quality pubs, ice cream parlours, various boutiques and surf shops. The local sandy beach, just ¾ mile away, is renowned for its fabulous surfing qualities and is patrolled by lifeguards in the main season and is easily reached within 15 minutes on foot. Approximately 4 miles away is Braunton, considered as the major hub of the immediate area with a good selection shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants, including one of the country’s best fish and chips restaurants! As the centre of the North Devon surf scene, Braunton is also home to the Museum of British Surfing and some great surfers’ shops. The fabulous Saunton Sands is a great expanse of sandy beach with exceptional sand dunes behind it, known as Braunton Burrows, the largest sand dune system in England.
The other two amazing beaches nearby are Putsborough and Woolacombe which are linked and are just over a mile away. Saunton Golf Club is just 3 miles away and the Tarka Trail which allows you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and river scenery is within easy reach too and follows a disused railway line and is loved by cyclists, runners, and walkers alike. Further afield you can enjoy exploring more of North Devon and all its attractions such as Exmoor National Park, home of the first ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ in Europe, Valley of the Rocks, the many rugged coastal towns, and quaint villages such as Lynton & Lynmouth, Ilfracombe, Hartland and the world-famous Clovelly Village – all with awe-inspiring scenery. And there are plenty of family-oriented places to visit including Exmoor Zoo, Milky Way Adventure Park, The Big Sheep farm-themed park, Watermouth Castle family theme park and Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park plus many others. For visitors seeking a piece of Devon life then the main towns of Barnstaple and Bideford provide the opportunity to wander during their weekly pannier markets.
