Howbeck Cottage is a small, two-bedroom place in the Cumbrian village of Howbeck. It's on the northern edge of the Lake District. We renovated it in 2022, so everything works.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped, but it's not a show home. The stairs are steep, like most old cottages. The garden is enclosed and gets the sun in the evening.
The village has a community shop and post office, and a micro-brewery. Caldbeck village is a short walk away. They've got a couple of tea rooms and a farm shop where you can get milk from a dispenser.
You can walk straight out from the door onto the fells. The lanes around here are very quiet, good for cycling if you bring bikes.
Keswick is about half an hour's drive. That's where you'll find the bigger shops, cafes, and boat trips on Derwentwater. Penrith is about 25 minutes the other way for supermarkets and a swimming pool. Ullswater is also within half an hour if you want a cruise.
The facilities are all listed, but the main things are the dishwasher, WiFi, parking, and an electric vehicle charger. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog.
For planning days out, the Lake District National Park Authority site is useful, as is the National Trust Lake District page.
