These three wonderful stone-built holiday cottages, Gardeners Cottage, Swift Cottage and Garvins Cottage can be found nestled within the award-winning grounds of the magnificent Grade II listed Wortley Hall. Having retained many of their original features they are full of character and charm, yet fully restored to reflect the modern-day lifestyle. Once the ancestral home to the Earls of Wharncliffe, Wortley Hall is now a hotel surrounded by 26 acres of stunning formal grounds. The setting is peaceful and picturesque, and with a selection of sunken and terraced gardens there’s ample opportunity to explore. Guests can also take advantage of the hotel facilities including a range of lounges, a spacious bar and an a la carte restaurant. In the warmer months there’s also opportunity to enjoy an afternoon tea on the outdoor terrace, whilst sitting back and taking in the beautiful and grand surroundings.
Throughout the year Wortley Hall also plays host to special events such as the Vintage Car Rally, Wine Tasting Dinners and Christmas Specials. Wortley is set between Sheffield and Barnsley thereby offering the ideal location to explore the Peak District National Park. Part of the Trans-Pennine trail runs through the estate, perfect for walkers and cyclists wanting to explore straight from the door. Wortley village itself is just a 5-minute walk and home to a country pub and restaurant, village store, farm shop and tearoom. In addition, Wortley Hall Golf Club is also nearby for any golf lovers. The market town of Penistone can be reached in just 10 minutes and is renowned for its farmers market which attracts visitors all year round, or Holmfirth home to its very own vineyard in around 20 minutes. Other attractions to visit locally include Wentworth Castle and Cannon Hall which can both be reached in around 15 minutes. Chatsworth House is also an easy day trip, and the National Coal Mining Museum, Kelham Island and Wortley Top Forge are also well worthwhile. For any shopaholics, Meadowhall, one of Europe’s top shopping malls with an extensive range of shops and restaurants is just 15 minutes away.
