Thatched Cottage
Thatched Cottage is in Stevens Crouch, which is a hamlet just outside Battle. It's a detached house, very old, with the main thatched part and a little annexe attached. You get the whole place and the garden to yourselves.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms, and there are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, but it's an old building. The stairs are mentioned as steep, spiral, or narrow. They are. You have to mind your head in a couple of places too.
There's an Aga in the kitchen. It does all the hot water and heats the place, so it's on all the time. You get used to it. There's a proper fireplace with a bread oven in the inglenook too.
Battle is about ten minutes away by car. It's a nice market town with the abbey ruins right in the middle. You can walk from the cottage into Normanhurst Forest at the back of the garden. The local pub is about half a mile down the lane.
Hastings and the sea is a fifteen minute drive. Rye and Camber Sands are about half an hour away. Bodiam Castle is about twenty minutes in the car. Great Dixter gardens are maybe thirty five minutes.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, a cot and highchair if you need them, bedding and towels are included. There's parking for two cars on the gravel. You can bring up to two dogs. There's wifi and a TV.
