The Shepherd's Hut
The Shepherd's Hut is on our farm in Herstmonceux. It's a working farm, so there are sheep and poultry around. You can walk around the 37 acres, but there's a fenced pond near the hut, so keep an eye on dogs and kids.
It's a proper shepherd's hut, but it's modern inside. Fully insulated, with a wood burner that keeps it warm. There's a double bed, a small kitchen with a fridge and a dishwasher, and a shower room. It's all one space, so it's cosy for two.
Outside there's a deck with a table and chairs. The view is over our fields. You can drive right down to the hut on a hard track to unload, then you park back up by the house. There are stepping stones to the door.
It's a 4 Star place, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. We include bedding and towels. There's a washing machine in the utility room by the main house you can use. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
The village is about a mile and a quarter away. There's a shop, a pub, and a restaurant there. For a beach, you’d drive to Pevensey, which is about eight miles.
Locally, there's Herstmonceux Castle with its gardens, and the Observatory Science Centre which is good if you've got kids. The 1066 Country Walk goes right through here if you like long-distance paths. For a day out, Battle Abbey and the pretty town of Rye are within half an hour's drive.
