We call it Millers Rest. It's up on Well Farm in North Tamerton, right on the Cornwall and Devon border. It’s a cottage, one of five grouped around a bit of a courtyard.
It sleeps six, but it says that on the tin. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which I’d say means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. The sofa converts to a double bed, so you can switch the sleeping around if you need to.
You get your own garden. There’s a bigger shared area with a kids' play bit too, which is handy if you’ve got them.
It's a working farm. You’ll see our chickens about, and we’ve got some kunekune pigs. You’re welcome to say hello. The River Tamar is at the bottom of the land if you fancy a walk down there. You can fish for trout, but you’d need a license.
The facilities list is pretty long. Washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, TV, woodburner. Bedding and towels are there. There’s on-site parking and an electric vehicle charger. No pets, I’m afraid.
Location-wise, it’s rural. The local pub is about a mile and a half walk. A decent shop is in Holsworthy, about three miles drive. For a beach, you’re looking at Bude. It’s about 10 or 11 miles, so 20-25 minutes in the car. Good for surfing.
If you like walking, the Bude Canal is just up the lane. For a bigger day out, Dartmoor is within an hour. The National Trust has lots of places nearby like Cotehele and the Tamar Valley. The Cornwall AONB site has good walking ideas.
That’s about the size of it. It’s a quiet spot. You’re here for the fields and the space, not for being in the middle of things.
