Kiln Green Farmhouse
Kiln Green Farmhouse is in Ackenthwaite. It's a farmhouse, so it's big and stone built. It's attached to our house, but you have your own front door and the garden is yours.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower. It's a 3 Star place. That means it's clean and comfortable, and it's been done up nicely, but it's not five-star luxury. It's a proper farmhouse.
The main thing is the land. You get access to 33 acres of fields that run down to the River Bela. You can walk in them, have a picnic, or paddle in the river. There's free fly fishing if you have a rod license.
Milnthorpe is about a mile away. That's where the shops and pubs are. There's a Co-op for groceries and a couple of decent pubs that do food.
You're on the very edge of the Lakes here. It's about ten miles to Bowness-on-Windermere. From there you can get on the lake, or catch the ferry across. Kendal is closer, maybe ten minutes in the car. They've got the Brewery Arts Centre and a good museum.
Further afield, you're within half an hour of Arnside and Silverdale on the coast, and the southern fells like the Whitbarrow Scar area. The Lake District National Park website is good for walking ideas.
In the house, there's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. It's got a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking is right outside.
