Drumlins Cottage is next to our house in Summerlands. It's a bungalow, so everything's on one level. We like that it's open out here. The views are to the front over the fields towards the drumlins, which are those long, smooth hills.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom with a shower. It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's clean, comfortable, and everything works, but it's not a luxury hotel.
The garden out the back is yours to use. It's private and has some nice mature planting.
You're about a mile from the village. There's a shop and a pub there. For a restaurant, you'd go a bit further, about a mile and a half.
Location is the main thing. You're right in the middle of a few different areas. Windermere and the main Lake District are maybe a twenty minute drive west. It's busy there in season. The Eden Valley is the other way, east, and it's much quieter. Head north and you're into Hadrian's Wall country. A bit further north east gets you into the Westmorland Dales, which is part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
It's a good base if you want to see several things without staying in the busiest spots. The coast at Allonby is about nine miles.
Inside, it's spacious for two. The doors are wide and there are no steps, so it's suitable if you have mobility issues. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Towels and bedding are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking right outside.
For planning, the Lake District National Park site is useful, and English Heritage for Hadrian's Wall.
