Number Two

Number Two is one of three cottages on Adelaide Place in Bishop Auckland. It's been done up, so it's clean and fresh inside. The rating is 4 Star, which feels about right.

It sleeps five, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. There's parking right outside your door, which is handy. The kitchen has a dishwasher and everything else you'd need. The living area is open plan.

You've got a small, enclosed courtyard out the back. It's not a big garden, but it's private and gets the sun. You can sit out there.

Bishop Auckland town centre is a few minutes' walk away for shops and cafes. The big attraction is the Castle, which is right there. It's run by the Auckland Project and it's well worth a visit.

In the summer, the Kynren show is on at night, opposite the castle. It's an outdoor history performance. People seem to like it. You can see the set from the cottage.

For walking, you're at the edge of the Weardale countryside straight away. It's nice. A bit further out, about a 30-minute drive, you're into the North Pennines proper. The Durham Dales are out that way too.

Durham city is about a 20-minute drive. The cathedral is the main thing, but the whole city centre is good for a wander.

The cottage has Wi-Fi, a TV, and all the bedding and towels are included. There's no bath, just a shower. Sorry, no pets.
