Old Stables Cottage

Old Stables Cottage is in Escomb, County Durham. It's a detached cottage on our farm. You look out over fields and our highland cattle. The River Wear is down in the valley if you fish. We have two fishing licences available if you arrange it with us beforehand. Summer is for salmon and trout, and there's pike fishing in the lake here in winter.

It sleeps four. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The living room is big, with large patio doors looking out. There's a wood burner for cold nights. The kitchen has what you need, and there's a utility room with a washing machine.

The main bedroom is a double on the ground floor. The second bedroom is a twin up in the loft. The headroom up there is low, so mind your head. Outside, there's a decked area with a hot tub. You can sit in it and look at the views.

You can walk to a local pub. Bishop Auckland is close for shops and takeaways. It's also where the Kynren outdoor show is in summer, but you need to book tickets well ahead. Barnard Castle is a market town about nine miles away. It has a weekly farmers market, some nice pubs, and the Bowes Museum. Raby Castle is nearby too, you can see the deer in the park. Hamsterley Forest is about ten minutes by car. Good for walking and cycling.

Durham city is about half an hour's drive. The cathedral and castle are worth seeing, and there are good walks by the river. There's an old Saxon church in Escomb village, it's been in use since the 600s.

Facilities: Wifi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, bedding and towels are included. Parking is here on site. It's wheelchair accessible at the entrance. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
