Peartree Cottage is in Shildon town centre. It's a terraced house from the 1960s. The whole place is done up to look exactly like it did then.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. One bathroom. The rating is 3 Star. It's clean and everything works, but it's a time capsule, not a modern holiday home.
The kitchen has a genuine old Belling cooker and formica worktops. They work. The TV is hidden in a big old cabinet, but it's a new flatscreen inside. There's a record player with some vinyl. The furniture and things on the shelves are all from that period.
You've got a small enclosed yard out the back. There's a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
A pub and a restaurant are about five minutes' walk away. There's a shop about ten minutes away.
The Locomotion railway museum is just down the road. Durham is about twenty minutes by car. It’s a brilliant city, the cathedral is worth seeing. Beamish Museum is probably a forty minute drive. It’s a big open air museum about life in the early 1900s.
If you want ideas for things to do, the Visit County Durham site is useful. For the cathedral and castle in Durham, check Durham Cathedral and English Heritage Durham Castle.
