The Granary is on our farm in Toft Hill. It's a converted grain store, so it's a tall, square building, detached. You'll see our Aberdeen Angus cattle in the fields around. It's very quiet here, down a country lane.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom, which is handy. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's been finished to a good standard. It's all on one level apart from the mezzanine sitting area, which has steep stairs up to it. Something to be aware of.
The heating is underfloor and runs off electricity from our wind turbine. You get the sense of being away from it all, but the view from the front takes in miles of countryside right over to Durham Cathedral in the distance.
There's a shop and a pub about a mile away in the village. The pub does food. For a bigger shop, Bishop Auckland is about five miles.
If you're here to walk or cycle, you're in a good spot. There are footpaths from the door. Hamsterley Forest is four miles away, with lots of trails. For days out, Barnard Castle and its castle are close. The Bowes Museum is there too. Durham city is about half an hour's drive, it's a UNESCO site. For something different, the National Railway Museum in Shildon is fifteen minutes away.
In terms of what's here: there's a wood burner, a dishwasher, a washing machine, WiFi, and TV. The garden is enclosed. You can park right outside. We allow up to two well-behaved dogs. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and there's a stairgate.
