Fawnlea Cottage
Fawnlea Cottage is in Staindrop. It's a little cottage set back in a quiet courtyard. We live next door, but it's completely separate and you have it to yourselves.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well equipped and in good order. It's just been redecorated.
The cottage is open plan downstairs. The garden is a patio area, and you can use the bike storage if you bring them.
Staindrop is a proper village. There's a shop, a post office, a pub, a bistro, and a tea room. All of that is about five minutes walk away, maybe less.
Raby Castle is right on the edge of the village. You can walk there in about twenty minutes through the field paths. There's a nice tree-lined walk with a river just across the road from the cottage too.
Barnard Castle is about eight minutes drive. That's where you'll find the main local market, more shops, and the castle ruins. The Bowes Museum is a must if you like that sort of thing, it's about fifteen minutes away.
For bigger days out, you've got Beamish Museum, which is about forty minutes. Durham is half an hour. The North York Moors or the coast are within an hour. Bishop Auckland is ten minutes away if you need the big retail parks.
Facilities wise: it's all there. Washing machine, WiFi, TV, parking. Bedding and towels are included. We can take two well-behaved dogs.
