The Old Chapel Retreat

The Old Chapel Retreat is a converted chapel in Staindrop. It's big, sleeps twelve. Six bedrooms, four bathrooms. I know, four bathrooms, you won't be queuing.

It's a 4 Star place. That means it's comfortable and well looked after, with good things like a dishwasher and a games room upstairs with a pool table. It's detached, so no shared walls. The original stone floors are still there in parts, which look nice but can be a bit cold underfoot. You might want slippers.

The village is quiet and pretty. There's a shop and a pub literally a few steps away. The pub does food.

If you walk out the door and up the road, you're at Raby Castle in about ten minutes. You can see the deer in the park. For a bit more life, Barnard Castle is five miles east. Good for a mooch and a coffee.

Within half an hour you've got a few options. Head into Durham to see the cathedral and castle. Or go west to the North Pennines for proper walks. If it's raining, Beamish Museum is about twenty miles north and is a full day out.

You can bring dogs, up to three. There's a completely enclosed courtyard with a barbecue. Parking for three cars on the drive.
