Roslyn Cottage

Roslyn Cottage is in Hamsterley, in County Durham. It’s a detached place, converted from an old farm building. There’s parking right next to it.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one double and one with twin beds. There’s one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating, so it’s comfortable and well-equipped. The living area is open plan. The kitchen has granite worktops.

Outside, there’s a private patio area. You also get shared use of about 17 acres of the owner’s land to walk around. Through the kitchen, there’s a covered veranda with a hot tub on it. It fits four. There are blinds for privacy.

There’s a pub and a restaurant about 200 yards up the road. The shop is in the next village, about five miles away.

You’re right next to Hamsterley Forest. It’s good for walking and mountain biking, and there’s a visitor centre. You’re between Teesdale and Weardale. High Force waterfall is a proper trip out, about a 70-foot drop.

Durham city is about 14 miles away. The cathedral and castle are a World Heritage Site. It’s a nice place to wander, with cobbled streets and independent shops.

The Beamish Museum is about half an hour’s drive. It’s an open-air museum showing life from the 1820s to the 1950s. You can get around on foot or by tram.

If you fancied a coast day, the Northumberland beaches and castles like Bamburgh are within an hour’s drive.

For facilities: WiFi, TV, washing machine, bedding and towels are all included. There’s a highchair and a stairgate. One well-behaved dog is allowed.
