Raby Cottage is up near Wolsingham in County Durham. It's one of three semi-detached cottages, alongside a big detached farmhouse that sleeps more. We're on a hillside with a fair bit of land around us.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after. The heating's good and it's generally cosy.
The cottage has an open plan living area with a wood burning stove. There's a patio and garden that's just for you. It's got a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included.
You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking right outside.
As part of the site, there's a shared indoor heated swimming pool and a games room with a full size snooker table. There's also a fishing lake on the grounds. The swimming pool has specific times for booking, which we'll send you.
A mile or so down the road is Wolsingham. It's a small dales town with a shop, a couple of pubs, and a tea room. It's handy.
For getting outside, you can walk straight from the door onto footpaths through the woods and fields here. Tunstall Reservoir is close by for a stroll. Hamsterley Forest is about a fifteen minute drive. Great for mountain biking or a family walk.
Within about half an hour you can get to some big days out. Beamish Museum is excellent, especially with kids. The city of Durham is about the same drive, for the cathedral and castle. The National Railway Museum at Shildon is close too if you're into trains.
A bit further, maybe forty minutes, you've got the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. High Force waterfall is up that way. The coast, Newcastle, and the Metro Centre are all within an hour's drive if you need something else.
