The Old Byre

The Old Byre is in Frosterley in Weardale. It's a conversion of an old farm building. We look after it.

It sleeps six, over three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after. The floors are stone, so it can feel cool underfoot.

It's right by the River Wear. You can hear the water from some of the rooms. The view from the main living area is over the river and the fields. It's very quiet.

You share the grounds with a few other cottages. There's a decent play area for children, a summer house, and a games room with a pool table and things. It's all very relaxed.

The village has a couple of shops and some pubs. They're about a five minute walk. The walking from the door is good, straight onto the river paths and into the dale.

The area is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's proper walking country. For a day out, Gibside is about half an hour's drive. Durham city is also about half an hour. Barnard Castle is a bit closer, maybe twenty minutes, and it has the Bowes Museum if the weather turns.

Inside, it's got what you'd expect: a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. You can bring one dog.
