Riverside Cottage is in Stanhope, right by the River Wear. It's a flat in a converted building, sleeps four with two double bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, means it's comfortable and well done up.
The main living area is open plan. The bathroom is a good size. One of the bedrooms has a door out to an enclosed yard with a table and chairs. You can see Stanhope Castle on the hill from there. The stairs up to the flat are internal but fairly typical for this sort of building.
You're about a five-minute walk from the centre of Stanhope. There's a butcher, baker, newsagent, and a couple of cafes. The Bonny Moorhen pub does food and has some live music weekends. The Durham Dales Centre in town is good for maps and information if you're walking.
For getting out, you're right on the river path. The Weardale Railway, which is a heritage line, stops in Stanhope. There's also an open-air swimming pool in town, it's heated. If you drive, you can be at Hamsterley Forest or High Force waterfall in about half an hour. Derwent Reservoir and Alston are about the same.
Further out, Durham city is about 40 minutes' drive. Beamish Museum, Barnard Castle, or bits of Hadrian's Wall are all within an hour. Useful links if you're planning: Durham County Council on Stanhope and North Pennines AONB.
Facilities: it's got a washing machine, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's an enclosed yard. It's wheelchair accessible to get in. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a highchair if needed. It can be booked with the flat next door for bigger groups.
