Meadow View Cottage is in Stanhope, on the main road. It looks out over the fields across to the river. It's a stone cottage, semi-detached.
It was fully done up in 2021, so it's in good shape. It sleeps four in two bedrooms upstairs. There's one bathroom with a shower over the bath. We've kept an old fireplace in the living room with a wood burner. There's a sofa, a table, and flagged floors.
The kitchen's decent, and there's a utility room through the back. Handy for muddy boots or storing bikes. There's a small courtyard out back with a table. It's enclosed, which is good if you've got a dog.
Stanhope's a small market town. You've got a few pubs and cafes on the High Street, a butcher, a baker, that sort of thing. There's a local shop for basics. The Durham Dales Centre is here too, they've got maps and walking info.
You can walk straight out from the house. The roads lead up into the North Pennines, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Good for cycling too. Hamsterley Forest is about a 20-minute drive for mountain biking trails.
For kids, there's the Weardale Railway that stops in Stanhope. There's an open-air swimming pool in town that's heated, which is unusual. Stanhope has a show and some music festivals through the year.
If you want to drive out, Barnard Castle is about half an hour. You've got the Bowes Museum there, and the High Force waterfall is nearby. Durham city, with the cathedral and castle, is about 40 minutes away. Beamish Museum, Newcastle, or Hexham and Hadrian's Wall are all within an hour's drive.
Facilities: Washing machine, wifi, cot and highchair available, bedding and towels are included. Parking for one car on the street outside. We allow up to two dogs.
