The Croft is in Stanhope on the main road through the village. It's a terraced, end of row cottage. Stanhope's the main town in Weardale, so it's not remote. You've got neighbours.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. We renovated it a couple of years ago, so everything's in good order. The back garden's a small courtyard, which is fine for a coffee or a drink.
The stairs are steep. They're old cottage stairs. You have to watch your head in the door from the kitchen into the living room if you're tall.
There's a pub and a tapas restaurant just around the corner, less than five minutes' walk. The main street has a butcher, baker, a couple of cafes, and a newsagent. The Durham Dales Centre is nearby for maps and local information.
For walking, you can start right from the door into the dale. The North Pennines AONB is all around. Hamsterley Forest is about a 15 minute drive for mountain biking trails. The Weardale Railway is a heritage line that runs from here, kids seem to like it. In summer, there's an open-air heated swimming pool in the village.
Within about half an hour you can get to Raby Castle, High Force waterfall, or Barnard Castle. Durham city is about 40 minutes by car. National Trust and English Heritage have a few places within that range too, like Gibside or Warkworth Castle.
Inside, there's a Smart TV, WiFi, a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. There's bike storage. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
