The Stables is in Frosterley in Weardale. It's a conversion of an old stable block, set around a courtyard with a couple of other cottages. You get your own patio. It looks right out over the River Wear, and the fields beyond.
It sleeps seven. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which helps. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well kept. The conversion's been done nicely.
You share the grounds with the other cottages. There's a kids' play area, a summer house, and a games room with a pool table. It's useful if the weather turns.
Frosterley village has a shop and a couple of pubs within walking distance. The walks from the door are good, straight up into the dale or along the river.
It's properly in the Durham Dales, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. High Moor is just up the road. Barnard Castle is about a 20 minute drive. It's a nice old market town with the castle ruin and the Bowes Museum. For a bigger day out, Durham city is roughly 30 minutes. The cathedral is the main thing, obviously.
Facilities are all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. You can bring one dog.
If you're looking for walks or other things to do, the North Pennines AONB site is useful, and This is Durham covers the wider county.
