The Stables is up a track near the village of Stanhope. It’s a new place, finished in 2022. You’re up high, so the views over the fields are good.
It sleeps seven in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms. It’s got a 5 Star rating, which means it’s well kitted out. One bedroom is on the ground floor and there’s a wet room there too, which is handy.
The main room has big windows looking out, so it’s light. There’s a suspended egg chair people seem to like. The kitchen is big enough for a few people to be in.
Outside, there’s a hot tub in a little courtyard. Further down the garden there’s a fountain and seating. There’s a play area for kids. It’s a dark sky area here, so the stars are clear on a good night.
A couple of things to know. There are horses, dogs, and cats that live on the wider property. The main village, Stanhope, is about a mile’s walk down the hill. It’s got pubs, shops, a baker, and a butcher.
You’re right in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Good walking and cycling from the door. Stanhope has an open-air swimming pool that’s open in summer. The Weardale Railway is a heritage line that starts there.
Within half an hour you can get to Raby Castle, or Barnard Castle for the Bowes Museum and river walks.
Facilities wise: all bedding and towels are included. There’s a washing machine, dishwasher, cot, highchair, and bike storage. There’s parking and an electric vehicle charger. You can bring up to two dogs.
