Squirrel Cottage is in Stanhope, which is a market town about halfway along Weardale. It's on the first floor of a building right beside the River Wear. You can hear the river from the living area. It was fully refurbished in 2022, so everything's clean and works.
Sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a shower over the bath. The rating is 4 Star. One bedroom has a double bed and the other has a kingsize, which we can make into twins if you ask beforehand. The kingsize room looks out towards Stanhope Castle.
The living space is open plan. There's a sofa, TV, and a kitchen area. Everything you'd need is there. You get WiFi and all the utilities are included. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a washing machine.
You can park on site. No pets, sorry.
It's about a five minute walk into the centre of Stanhope. There's a local shop, a butcher, a baker, and a few cafes. There's a fish and chip shop too. The Durham Dales Centre is there, which is good for maps and local information if you're walking or cycling.
The town's in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can walk straight out along the riverbank from the cottage. For a proper swim, there's the Weardale Open Air Swimming Pool in the town, which is heated. The Weardale Railway stops here as well.
Within about half an hour's drive you've got Hamsterley Forest for walking and cycling, High Force waterfall, and Derwent Reservoir. Durham city is about 40 minutes away if you want the cathedral or the castle.
Around an hour's drive gets you to places like Barnard Castle, the Beamish Museum, or bits of Hadrian's Wall. Newcastle is about an hour away too.
It can be booked with its sister property, Riverside Cottage, if you need space for more people.
