Squirrel Cottage is a first-floor apartment in Stanhope. It looks down over the river at the back. You're right in the town, but it feels quiet.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. We finished refurbishing it in 2022. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. The main room is open plan. There's a washing machine, TV, WiFi, and parking for one car. All the bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
Stanhope has what you need. There's a shop, a couple of cafes, a butcher, and a fish and chip shop all a few minutes' walk away. The local pub is about a quarter of a mile.
It's good for walking. You can step out the door and be on the river path straight away. The whole area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For a longer day out, Hamsterley Forest or High Force waterfall are about 25 minutes by car. The Derwent Reservoir and Alston are roughly the same.
If you're here with children, the Weardale Railway runs from the town. There's also an open-air swimming pool in Stanhope, which is heated.
You can get to Durham city in about 40 minutes to see the cathedral and castle. Beamish Museum is under an hour's drive, and so is a section of Hadrian's Wall.
This place is next door to its sister apartment, Riverside Cottage. You can book them together if you're a larger group.
