Barton Cottage
Barton Cottage is in St Gennys, Cornwall. It’s a traditional granite cottage next to the church on the cliff. You can see the sea from the back garden.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms, a double and a twin. Both have good views. There’s one bathroom. It’s a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. The stairs are wooden and a bit steep, like a lot of old cottages.
The coastal path is about five minutes’ walk away. The views from there are dramatic because the cliffs are so high. There’s also a footpath just down the lane that takes you down to Crackington Haven beach in about fifteen minutes. If you’d rather drive, it’s five minutes.
Crackington Haven has a beach that’s good for surfing. There are a couple of beach shops, cafes, and a pub with a terrace right by the sea. The beach is mostly pebbles at high tide but has sand and rock pools when the tide goes out.
The owner, who lives nearby, sometimes runs nature walks on the National Trust coastland around here. Most of the cliffs and farmland nearby are owned by the National Trust. You can find walks and information on their site: National Trust Cornwall.
For a wider beach, Widemouth Bay is about a ten minute drive south. Bude is about fifteen minutes north and has a sea pool, more shops, and a golf course. Within half an hour you can get to Boscastle, Tintagel, and the moorland around Davidstow.
Facilities: it has an open fire, a washing machine, WiFi, TV, and parking. The garden is enclosed. Bedding is included and there’s a cot and highchair if needed. You can bring one dog.
