Island Retreat
Island Retreat is a chalet on Mersea Island. It's detached, sat amongst others on Coopers Beach Holiday Park. You have your own bit of decking, fully enclosed, so it's private.
The place sleeps six, but it's two bedrooms. That's because one is a very large double and the other has a set of adult-sized bunk beds and two singles. It suits two couples sharing, or one family. There's one bathroom, which is a wet room on the ground floor. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's in good order.
You're right on the park, which has a pool complex, a bar and a restaurant. The beach is a two minute walk. It's shingle and sand, and it's very shallow so it's good for kids. The island itself is quiet. You can drive to the West Mersea side for shops, chip shops, and the famous Company Shed for seafood.
If you want to get off the island, Colchester is about a 20 minute drive. The castle is worth a look. Further afield, you've got Constable Country around Dedham, which is about 45 minutes. The National Trust has a few bits nearby like Bourne Mill.
Facilities: it's all on one level except for the bedrooms which are up a staircase. There's parking for one car right outside. WiFi, TV, bedding and towels are included. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
Just so you know, to get onto Mersea Island you cross "The Strood", which is a causeway. It gets covered by the tide for a few hours each day, so you have to check tide times if you're planning to come and go.
