Humperdink

It's called Humperdink, which is a bit of a name, I know. It's in Lee over Sands, Essex. It's a detached bungalow in the middle of an Essex Wildlife Trust bird reserve, so it's properly quiet. You're surrounded by fields and tidal creeks.

It sleeps seven, but in two bedrooms. So it's one double, one family room with bunk beds and a single, and then a sofa bed in the living area. One bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place has been done up recently so it's comfortable, not dated.

The big thing is the location. You're on a 750-acre reserve. The beach is a shingle-sand mix, about a five minute walk. It's often empty. You can see the sea from one bedroom window. Over the sea wall there's a tidal creek you can paddle in if you've got kayaks or a paddleboard.

It's good for families. There's a travel cot, highchair, stairgate, some toys. The garden is enclosed so it's safe for dogs and kids. You can take two dogs.

For practical stuff, St Osyth village is about ten minutes away by car. There are shops and a couple of pubs that do food. For a bigger shop or proper seaside stuff, Clacton-on-Sea is about fifteen minutes. It's got the pier, arcades, that sort of thing. Walton on Naze is similar, maybe twenty minutes. If you want somewhere a bit quieter, Brightlingsea is nice.

Inside, it's open plan. There's a TV, WiFi, a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is right outside.

If you're planning things to do, the Essex Wildlife Trust site has details about the reserve. For wider days out, Visit Essex is useful.
