This is Curlew, a place in Point Clear. It's a detached house right on the sea wall. The beach is about five yards from your door. The view is straight out over the estuary, nothing in the way. You get the whole horizon.
It sleeps nine, in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. We rate it 4 Star. It's modern inside, open plan. Everything you need is there, washing machine, dishwasher. You can bring two dogs.
The stairs go up three floors. The top floor is a games room with a pool table and another TV. It's a good spot if some people want to do their own thing.
Outside, there's a patio with a BBQ, and the garden gate opens straight onto the sea wall path.
You're very much on the edge of things here. There's a pub, a cafe and a takeaway about 150 yards along the road. For a proper shop, you'll need to drive to St Osyth village, which is two miles. It's quiet.
If you like being by the water, it's perfect. You can walk for miles along the coastal path from the doorstep. The beach is shingle, good for swimming when the tide's in, or just poking around in the pools. You see a lot of birds. For sailing or watersports, Brightlingsea harbour is close and there's a watersports park in St Osyth.
Colchester is about a twenty minute drive. They've got the castle, the zoo, and all the big shops. Mersea Island is over the causeway, or you can get the foot ferry from Brightlingsea. Frinton, Walton-on-the-Naze, those sorts of places are all within half an hour if you want a different beach or a pier.
Further inland, towards Dedham Vale, it's about half an hour to places like Flatford Mill. It's nice countryside for a drive.
