Chandler's Cottage
This is Chandler's Cottage over in West Mersea. It's a three bedroom place and it sleeps four. There are two bathrooms which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The main thing is the location. You're a five minute walk from the beach and the high street. The village shops are good, and there are several decent pubs that do food. If you like seafood, especially oysters, you're in the right place.
Mersea Island gets cut off by the tide for a short time when it's very high, about once a month. It's not a problem, you just check the tide times. It's part of the whole thing.
The beach is sandy at low tide. There's a jetty where people go crabbing. You can rent kayaks and paddleboards. The yacht club is there if you're into sailing.
The cottage has a woodburning stove for the cooler evenings. There's a decent enclosed garden with a patio and a BBQ. It's a good spot to sit out. Parking is on the drive.
Inside, it's open plan downstairs. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washer. All the bedding and towels are included. We can take up to two dogs.
If you want to go further, Colchester is about twenty minutes by car. They've got the castle museum and a big park. Colchester Zoo is a solid day out, especially with kids.
For walks, the coastline around the island itself is the main draw. If you want to drive, Dedham Vale, which is Constable Country, is about 35 minutes away.
