Lancashire And Yorkshire Cottage is in Hellifield village. It’s a solid stone terraced house, built by the railway for its workers in the 1870s. You can see the station from the front door.
Sleeps nine across four bedrooms. Two bathrooms, one is an en-suite upstairs. The main living room has a wood burner. There’s a dining room with a table big enough for everyone and a kitchen round the back.
The stairs are steep and winding, because it’s an old railway cottage. The second floor ceilings are low in parts, watch your head.
It has a 4 Star rating. That means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. The beds are made up for you with linen and towels. There’s WiFi, parking out the back, and an enclosed yard.
You can bring two dogs.
In the village there’s a post office, a small shop, a café and a pub. The pub does food. Skipton’s about a ten minute drive east for bigger supermarkets. Settle is about the same to the west.
You’re right between the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. Walking and cycling from the door is easy. Gisburn Forest, which has mountain bike trails, is about a fifteen minute drive. Yorkshire Dales National Park and Forest of Bowland AONB are the main sites for planning.
If you come by train you can walk from Hellifield station. It’s on the Settle to Carlisle line.
Bolton Abbey is about 20 minutes away. Grassington, the market town they used for All Creatures Great and Small, is about half an hour. You can drive to the Lake District in around an hour and a half if you want a long day out.
Inside, there’s a cupboard under the stairs for boots and coats. We leave a pile of OS maps and some board games in case the weather turns.
