Nel’s Cottage is a traditional stone-built cottage in the heart of the historic market town of Richmond in North Yorkshire. Enjoy lovely circular walks around the riverbanks, visit the Station, where you will find art and craft exhibitions, cinema, café, micro-brewery, delicatessen, and ice cream parlour. Continue along the river to Easby Abbey. Richmond is known as the ’Gateway to the Dales’, well placed to visit Swaledale, Wensleydale and the North York Moors National Park. The Coast-to-Coast walk passes by The Station and through Swaledale, but there are also many other walks to be enjoyed. Nearby Reeth is a good starting point for walks and cycling. The Buttertubs Pass offers an exhilarating route over moorland to Hawes in Wensleydale where you can visit the Wensleydale Creamery and try Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese. Leyburn is a charming town with a Friday market in the main square and nearby Middleham has a magnificent castle and is also well known for its racing stables. There are several waterfalls in the area including Hardraw Force near Hawes, known for its height, and pretty Aysgarth Falls which featured in ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ film There is so much to see and do both in Richmond and the surrounding areas, whatever the time of year you visit.
