Daleview Cottage is just perfect for walkers and makes an excellent base from which to explore The North Pennines, High Force Waterfall and the Upper Tees Valley. There are plenty of pretty pubs around for you to enjoy a well-earned rest; this area is a walker’s paradise. Middleton in Teesdale, Holwick and Cotherstone are all nearby, offering extensive walks along The Pennine Way. A popular route is the stroll to High Birk Hatt - the rural home of Hannah Hauxwell, the lady of The Dales. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only 6½ miles away. Here you will find a range of curio and antique shops, butchers, bakeries and a few high street stores. There is also a selection of pretty cafés and pubs, restaurants and a large supermarket.
Other great family days out include Raby Castle and Deer Park, a trip to the historic city of Durham, Beamish Open-Air Museum, Auckland Castle, former home of the Prince Bishops, and the North East coastline, with its many harbour and ports.
