The cottage has a truly welcoming feel, retaining much of its original charm, with exposed stone walls and beautiful oak beams. The cosy living room has two comfortable sofas set around a warming log burning stove. The kitchen is compact yet well equipped for a hearty breakfast or evening meal. After a day of walking or cycling, how lovely to light the fire and have a glass of wine or step out onto the terraced garden for those wonderful big, Weardale sunsets. Upstairs, the charming bedroom has a real country cottage feel with comfy double bed and stunning views to wake up to. Two steps down lead to the bathroom with shower. To the rear of the cottage there is a shed for your cycles, stone steps lead up to a small, terraced garden where you can enjoy views across open countryside, a quiet spot to sit with a coffee or read a book. There is shared access across the back of the cottages.
The location is perfect for guests who enjoy a walking or cycling holiday, there are plenty of public footpaths and cycle paths that lead directly from the cottage and through some of the most magnificent countryside and beyond, offering visitors views of hills, dales, waterfalls and much more. There are also plenty of attractions nearby with the picture postcard villages of Stanhope, Frosterley and Wolsingham within a short drive. A 1. 5 mile walk will take you to the next village and the nearest pub. For guests wanting to travel a little further afield but still remain within an easy hour’s drive, the opportunities are vast. The cathedral city of Durham, with its castle and university, is only 27 miles away, Cumbria and the Lake District can be visited within an hour’s drive, as can Northumberland, Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Alnwick making this a perfect location for a longer stay.
