Thornton Cottage is in Kirkby in Furness. It's a terraced cottage, part of a short row. The back of the house looks out towards Black Combe.
It sleeps four. There are three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's not huge, but it's enough for a small family or two couples. The stairs are a bit narrow, like most cottages round here.
The living room has a log-effect fire for cooler evenings. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. All the bedding and towels are included.
You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed, which is useful.
Kirkby itself is quiet. There's a local shop and a couple of pubs. You can start a walk right from the door. The village has a tennis court and a play area.
You're about ten minutes' drive from the coast at Foxfield or Sandscale. Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve is good for a stroll by the water.
Coniston Water is under fifteen minutes away by car. It's good for paddling or messing about with boats. Ulverston is a nice market town, about a twenty-minute drive over the moor. Barrow-in-Furness has supermarkets, a cinema, and Furness Abbey if you're interested in history.
Further into the Lake District, you've got all the main fells and towns within about forty-five minutes. Useful site for planning: Lake District National Park.
