Highthel is just over a mile from the coast at Cresswell and a beautiful walk of three miles from the nature reserve at Druridge Bay, a stunning unspoilt part of the Northumbrian coast. Cresswell has a beautiful beach and ice cream shop, with lovely views up the coast to Coquet Island.

Only 8 miles away is Morpeth, a pretty market town with some excellent shops and restaurants, popular on a weekend with locals. It is easy to explore from this ideal holiday base with Amble only 10 miles with a busy Sunday Market and nice places to eat and Alnwick only half hours’ drive with the majestic castle featured in some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes. Over to the west, discover Hadrian’s Wall. Or maybe have a day trip into the Northumberland National Park with miles of Forest around the huge reservoir.
The local buses or a train from Morpeth will take you to Newcastle upon Tyne, explore the famous quayside, the fine architecture or visit the Theatre, of course you are spoilt for choice with places to eat and drink, make a day of it and stop off to see the landmark Tyne Bridge.
