St Cuthbert's Retreat is in Wooler. It's a two bedroom cottage that sleeps four. There are two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 3 Star rating.
One thing to know straight away: the stairs to the bedrooms are steep. They're the original cottage stairs. Just watch your step.
You get a small enclosed garden out the back. It's up some steps and looks onto a pond. There's seating out there. The owners run a bookshop next door, so sometimes they leave a few books in the cottage.
Wooler's a proper market town. There's a Co-op for groceries, and a few pubs and places to eat. The town's right on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, so you can drive five minutes and be in the Cheviot hills.
The coast is about twenty minutes east. You've got Bamburgh Castle and the beach there. Seahouses is where you get the boats out to the Farne Islands to see the puffins. Holy Island is a bit further, but you need to check the tide times for the causeway.
Other places within half an hour: Alnwick with its castle and gardens, the Chillingham wild cattle, and Berwick-upon-Tweed. The Scottish border at Coldstream is about twenty minutes north.
Facilities: it's got a washing machine, towels and bedding are included, and there's space to store bikes. We accept up to two dogs. There's a stairgate if you need it.
