The Stables

The Stables is one of two cottages in our yard. It's brand new, built next to the main house, which is much older. It's completely detached. You look out onto a big field, which we sometimes have sheep in.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both downstairs, and each has its own bathroom. One of the showers is a walk-in. The doors from the bedrooms go straight out into your own garden bit. Inside, it's all wood floors and high ceilings. It feels bright and new.

It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's well equipped. There's a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. There's parking right outside.

The location is the main thing. We're in Birdham, which is basically a lane between Chichester Harbour and the sea. The bus to Chichester or the beach stops almost at the gate.

West Wittering beach is about ten minutes by car. It's a good sandy beach. You can walk from here to Itchenor along the harbour in about half an hour, and get the foot ferry across to Bosham from there. The whole Chichester Harbour area is good for sailing, paddleboarding, that sort of thing.

Chichester is fifteen minutes away. It's a proper city with a cathedral, the theatre, and shops. Goodwood is close by for the motor racing or the horse racing. The South Downs are right there for walking.

If you want to go further, Portsmouth with its historic dockyard is about twenty minutes drive. The Isle of Wight ferries go from there. There are several National Trust places like Petworth and Arundel Castle within half an hour.

There are a couple of decent pubs in walking distance, and more restaurants in Chichester. The other cottage, The Dairy, is identical. They can be booked together if you're a group of eight.
