Oronsay Cottage is in Great Urswick, a small village a few miles south of Ulverston. It's a proper stone cottage, attached to a farmhouse.
We sleep eight. Four bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bathroom is an en-suite to the main bedroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and in good order, not a show home. There are big stone fireplaces in the living room and dining room. The beams are low in a couple of doorways, so mind your head.
The garden out the back is enclosed. It's got a lawn and stone walls, so it's private and sheltered. There's a BBQ and space to store bikes.
In the village there's a pub about a five minute walk away. There's also a tarn, which is good for a stroll and a bit of birdwatching. For a longer walk, you can get up onto Birkrigg Common. The stone circle there is worth seeing.
Ulverston is the nearest proper town, about ten minutes by car. They've got supermarkets, shops, and a market on Thursdays and Saturdays. It's a nice place to wander around.
From there, you're well placed for the South Lakes. Coniston Water and Windermere are both about a twenty-five minute drive. The coast is close too, around fifteen minutes to places like Bardsea. If you fancy a steam train, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway isn't far.
The cottage has a woodburning stove, WiFi, a washing machine and dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot, highchair and stairgate. We accept up to two dogs.
