Guards Cottage

Guards Cottage is in Gleaston. It's a small, single-detached place. Just for two people, and no pets.

Inside, it's all open plan downstairs so you can talk to someone while you're cooking. There's a wood burner which works well. The bedroom has a double bed under some high, beamed ceilings. The bathroom has a shower.

Outside, there's a small garden area for you and a parking spot.

It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and clean, but not luxury. You've got Wi-Fi, a TV, and a dishwasher.

The village is quiet. You can walk to Gleaston Water Mill in five minutes. For a pint, the nearest proper pubs are in Ulverston, which is about a ten-minute drive.

In the car, you can get to Coniston Water or Lake Windermere in roughly half an hour. Barrow-in-Furness is closer, about fifteen minutes. It's a working town, but the Dock Museum is interesting if you like industrial history. Walney Island is just past Barrow and has some good, long beaches.

For walking, the southern lakes and the Furness coast are right on the doorstep. More organised days out could involve the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway or a trip on a Windermere steamer.
