The Snug is in Dalbeattie, in Dumfriesshire. It’s a renovated end-terrace house. We finished the work in 2022, so everything inside is new. It sleeps four people, has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both bedrooms have their own en-suite.
Downstairs there’s a kitchen and dining area, a living room with a wood burner, and a utility room with a boot space and toilet. The stairs are standard. Upstairs, the bedrooms are a good size with plenty of storage. The en-suites have walk-in showers.
Outside is an enclosed courtyard. It gets the sun in the afternoon. It’s secure for dogs, and we allow up to two pets.
The house has a 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable and well-equipped, not luxurious. There’s wifi, a TV, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included.
Dalbeattie itself is a small town. There’s a local shop for basics and a couple of pubs that do food. For a bigger supermarket, Castle Douglas is about a 15-minute drive away.
The main reason people come here is for the outdoors. The 7Stanes mountain biking trails in Dalbeattie Forest start practically on the doorstep. They’re some of the best in the country. There are also gentler forest walks from the town centre.
You’re about 10 minutes by car from the Solway Coast. Kippford and Rockcliffe are pretty little coastal villages. There are sandy beaches and rocky bits all along that coast. It’s good for walking and birdwatching.
Within half an hour you can be at Threave Garden, which is a National Trust site. There are several good golf courses nearby too. Kirkcudbright, which is an artist’s town with a harbour, is about 20 minutes away.
