Craigvar House is in Castle Douglas, a market town in Galloway. It's a Georgian townhouse on a quiet street. It's a tall, thin house, so there are a lot of stairs. They're the original ones, so they're a bit steeper than modern stairs.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are also three bathrooms, which is useful. Every bedroom has its own. Two are ensuite, and there's a separate shower room on the ground floor too.
The garden is at the back. It's fully fenced, so it's secure for dogs. You get the whole thing to yourselves. It's pretty basic, just a lawn and some planting, but it's a nice spot to sit out.
Inside, it's furnished with old furniture. A lot of it is antique. It's comfortable, but it's not a minimalist, brand-new place. It feels like an old house. There's a small study upstairs and a separate little sitting room right at the top, which is a quiet spot if someone wants to get away.
You're a couple of minutes' walk from the town centre. Castle Douglas has good local shops, butchers, bakers, that sort of thing. There are several pubs and places to eat. Carlingwark Loch is even closer, just at the end of the street. There's a path all the way round it for a walk.
For bigger days out, the Solway coast is about a 20-minute drive. There are good sandy beaches there, like Sandyhills. The Galloway Forest Park is about half an hour away for proper forest walking. It's a Dark Sky Park, so if it's clear at night, the stars are amazing. Threave Gardens, which are National Trust, are just outside Castle Douglas.
Facilities: it's got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for one car on the street outside. Bedding and towels are included. It's a 4 Star rating, so it's well-equipped and comfortable. You can bring up to three dogs.
